Contact Patterns and Aggregate Opinion Levels - Results from a Simulation Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the last ten years, sociologists, social psychologists and physical scientists have developed opinion change models where influence is exerted through social ties. The goal of our paper is to investigate the effect of contact patterns on the number of individuals within a group who share the same opinion. We present an opinion formation model, simulate opinion formation in eight different kinds of networks and present the results. We find that contact patterns can have large effects on agreement levels. For example, individuals in tree networks display low levels of agreement. Basic statistical descriptors of network structure, such as density, correlate with group agreement in our simulated data. We also found that dummy variables indicating type of network have statistically significant effects, suggesting that additional unmeasured features of the network contribute to agreement in our simulations.

متن کاملCharacterising Aggregate Inter-contact Times in Heterogeneous Opportunistic Networks
A pioneering body of work in the area of mobile opportunistic networks has shown that characterising inter-contact times between pairs of nodes is crucial. In particular, when inter-contact times follow a power-law distribution, the expected delay of a large family of forwarding protocols may be infinite. The most common approach adopted in the literature to study inter-contact times consists i...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Spherical and Cylindrical Contact Theories for Using in the Biological Nanoparticles Manipulation
The low Young's modulus of biological particles results in their large deformation against the AFM probe forces; therefore, it is necessary to study the contact mechanics of bioparticles in order to predict their mechanical behaviors. This paper specifically deals with the contact mechanics of DNA nanoparticles with spherical and cylindrical shapes during manipulation. In previous studies, ...
متن کاملEffective Parameters in Contact Mechanic for Micro/nano Particle Manipulation Based on Atomic Force Microscopy
The effect of geometry and material of the Micro/Nano particle on contact mechanic for manipulation was studied in this work based on atomic force microscopy. Hertz contact model simulation for EpH biological micro particle with spherical, cylindrical, and circular crowned roller shape was used to investigate the effect of geometry on contact simulation process in manipulation. Then, to val...
